How to Choose Classes

The number of choices you see can be overwhelming. We have ideas to get you started.

Attend a NSW Webinar

Each week, watch an advisor walk you through getting started building your schedule. This is also a great time to have individual questions answered before your appointment.

Milestones

We have the tools you need to successfully register and get ready for fall semester. Here’s how to get started.

  Complete your online experience.

Select an enrollment window in Buff Portal

Sign up for an advising appointment in Buff Portal Advising.

After completing the above:

  Prepare for your advising appointment:

  • Check the catalog for sample degree plans and recommended classes.
  • Majoring in astronomy, atmospheric and oceanic sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, economics, geology, math, physics or statistics? Take your math placement exam.
  • Run a degree audit and note areas you need to fulfill.
  • Create a list of questions to ask your advisor. For example:
    • I’m an open option major. When do I need to make a decision on a major and how can I explore?
    • What opportunities are available to me outside of the classroom?

Prepare your fall semester schedule 1-2 weeks before your enrollment window. CU Boulder's class search allows you to directly add courses to your shopping cart, which are stored in Buff Portal. Remember that adding a course to your cart does not reserve your spot in the class.

Officially enroll in classes during your chosen registration window.

First-year students are assigned to their first year academic advisor after they enroll in classes.

Send an email to CU Boulder's admissions office with your final high school (and college if you took dual-enrollment courses) transcripts or send them by mail to:

Regent Administrative Center 125
University of Colorado Boulder

Connect with Disability Services. CU Boulder is committed to providing equal access to its programs and services to qualified students.

  Apply for your BuffOne Card.
