Hosted by the Computing Research Association (CRA), the Undergraduate Research to PhD program (UR2PhD) aims to improve and increase mentored research experiences.

About

The Undergraduate Research to PhD program (“UR2PhD”, pronounced ‘you are to PhD’) engages undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty mentors, universities and colleges, and non-profits to increase the quantity and quality of mentored research experiences while sustaining student interest in research.

Computing Research Association (CRA) was formed in 1972 as the Computer Science Board (CSB), which provided a forum for the chairs of Ph.D. granting computer science departments to discuss issues and share information. The mission of the CRA is to catalyze computing research by engaging industry, government, and academia. CRA executes this mission by leading the computing research community, informing policymakers and the public, and promoting the development of a welcoming, responsible, and innovative computing research community.

Programs for Undergraduates
  • A pre-research experience course for undergrads who haven’t participated in research yet but are interested in developing skills.
  • An undergraduate research training course to build fundamental research skills. This course is intended for emerging researchers working together on a research project.
  • Research engagement & awareness workshops to increase understanding of research, research careers, and pathways.
  • Graduate school application workshops to prepare you for applying to doctoral computing programs.
  • Funding to support program participants in continuing in their research journeys.
