Empower Transformative Learning

UROP enables transformative learning at the intersection of research and teaching by engaging students with innovative faculty, professional communities, and their developing identities as leaders.

Give Now

UROP offers a range of flexible funding options for students and faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder to form partnerships for research, scholarly and creative projects in all majors and fields of study.

UROP's partner program PACE (Professional and Academic Conference Endowment) provides funding for undergraduates to present, perform or exhibit their work at conferences and exhibitions.

UROP also hosts outreach events and workshops with campus partners, supports institutional undergraduate journals, produces a regular video series with campus communications, and provides seed funding for units to design and scale innovative activities that engage their students in the academic and creative life of the university.

An active member of CU Boulder's LEAD Alliance, UROP is committed to working with campus partners to broaden participation by addressing deficits in non-STEM fields while clearing conceptual pathways and bridging equity gaps for untapped students—translating opportunity into engagement.

Benefits

  • Explore and discover interests beyond the classroom and textbook
  • Get hands-on experience with innovative research and creative production
  • Develop student-faculty mentor relationships and connect with peers
  • Acquire in-demand academic and professional credentials
  • Refine your academic and career goals
  • Build self-confidence and a supportive professional network

Student Grants

UROP offers two funding options for undergraduates of all majors.

Assistantships allow students to assist a mentor on a project and do not require an original proposal to apply.

Individual Grants allow students to take ownership of part (or all) of a project with an original proposal.

Check out open opportunities to join a faculty-led team on a range of projects.

Faculty Grants

UROP offers three funding options for faculty in all units.

Team Grants support building student teams for collaborative projects and do not require faculty to select students before applying.

Publications Grants support campus venues for CU Boulder undergraduate research and creative work.

Department Development Grants support efforts to engage undergraduates in the academic and creative life of the unit.

UROP Deadlines

Student and faculty grant applications are due February 12, 2021; mentor endorsements for student grants are due February 19, 2021.

UROP encourages faculty to serve on the UROP Review Board to evaluate proposals, learn more about the process and help ensure timely decisions.
