Through the fall semester, campus officials are providing weekly updates, including dashboard stats and items of note on positive cases, isolation, contact tracing, mitigation measures and more.
Move-in
- Approximately 7,000 students are expected to move into the residence halls by Friday, Aug. 21, and they are all required to have a negative COVID-19 test within five days prior to move-in.
- For students who do not arrive on campus with a completed test, testing is provided by CU Boulder Medical Services in partnership with faculty experts, campus researchers and a team of volunteers.
- As of Aug. 19, more than half of students who have arrived this week for move-in arrived with a COVID-19 test already completed.
COVID-19-ready dashboard
- The CU Boulder COVID-19-ready dashboard has been updated every day this week.
- In the past five days (Aug. 15-19), the total number of polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, tests completed by Medical Services is 1,571, and there have been nine positive results. This includes testing of residence hall students who did not arrive with a negative test result, as well as tests conducted at the Public Health Clinic at Wardenburg Health Center.
- Students with a positive result who were scheduled to move into the residence halls are isolating until cleared by Medical Services for move-in. Some students are isolating in their permanent residence and some are isolating in a university-provided space.
- Percent of university isolation space in use: 2%.
Contact tracing
- The campus contact tracing program, in coordination with Boulder County Public Health, has been in operation since the summer and has had 31 contact tracing cases so far with 82% of contacts reached.
- There are currently seven contact tracing cases that are open. An open contact tracing case means that we are still: in the process of conducting interviews for a case; gathering information about close contacts; connecting with contacts to advise them on what to do related to potential exposure; conducting daily check-ins with the positive cases while they are in isolation.
Mitigation measures
- The campus has launched the Protect Our Herd public health awareness campaign, which includes tips for staying healthy, operational signage around the campus and city, as well as a full digital media campaign that reinforces health and safety protocols that all CU Boulder community members on campus and in the surrounding community are required to follow.
- The campus has assessed every heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC, system to ensure each is providing proper ventilation to mitigate virus spread. The campus’s mitigation strategies are robust and in line with–or exceed–industry best practices. The facilities task force’s HVAC subgroup has posted operational protocols that are the result of collaboration, guiding campus implementation efforts.
- The campus has utilized an 8-foot hexagon model to ensure physical distancing in classrooms.
- About half of all classes will be delivered remotely or online. About a quarter will be a hybrid of online and in-person learning. About a quarter will be in-person classes.
