As you settle into your new life at CU Boulder, you may notice some things around campus—chalk messages on the sidewalks, event posters covering bulletin boards and many people talking about “getting involved.” We are surrounded by opportunities to get involved, but what does this mean for you?

Getting involved helps you discover interests and hobbies, find a close-knit community on campus and even explore different career paths. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) provides many ways to get involved on campus—here are a few areas to help you get started.

Student organizations

CU Boulder has over 500 student organizations. Whether you are interested in politics, outdoor activities, artistic expression, social justice or athletic competition, there’s something for everyone. Visit BuffConnect to explore student groups by topic or an alphabetical list, or attend the upcoming Buff Block Party on Sept. 27 to meet student groups on campus.

Can’t find a group that matches your interests? Start an organization of your own! CSI is here to support student groups with the resources to plan events, raise funds and grow your organization.

Campus events

If you feel like you don’t have time to commit to a group right now, there are still ways you can get involved and meet new people. CSI hosts many events throughout the year, including I Love Mondays, Ralphie’s Cooking Basics, Buffalo Nites and programs through the Dennis Small Cultural Center. CSI events are free and open to all students.

Leadership development

Leadership experience is always something that looks great on a résumé! CU GOLD (Gaining Opportunities through Leadership Development) provides free leadership development opportunities to all students. Students can register for the Core Leadership Program, which consists of weekly seminars on a variety of leadership topics.

Fraternity and sorority life

Fraternity and sorority life offers friendships, leadership opportunities, community service and philanthropy, networking, social events and more. Learn more by visiting the Fraternity & Sorority Life website.

If you are still unsure on how to get involved, stop in the CSI office in UMC 330. CSI staff are happy to help you find the best way for you to get involved at CU.
