NextFifty Flexible Support Grants
Please see the full solicitation for complete information about the funding opportunity. Below is a summary assembled by the Research & Innovation Office (RIO).
Program Summary
The NextFifty Initiative exists to support activities that improve the lives and capacities of adults age 50 and older and/or their caregivers.
Flexible Support grants are restricted to organizations or programs that serve (or seek to serve) older adults, but funds can be used flexibly. Instead of being asked to articulate a specific project plan and budget, Flexible Support grant applicants will be asked about their organization’s and/or program’s goals and how the funding will support the achievement of those goals. Simply put – what need do you see in the aging community and how will these funds help you address it?
The goal for this funding opportunity is to help organizations and programs serving older adults achieve their goals and improve their work toward enhancing the lives of older adults.
NextFifty Initiative is committed to social equity and expects grantees to demonstrate performance accountability that is free from discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion, national origin, disability, military status, genetic information, or any other protected status. In addition, NextFifty Initiative seeks to fund organizations, projects, or programs that target the most underserved in the aging sector, including, but not limited to; black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), disabled, homeless, LGBTQ+, low-income, rural, and vulnerable communities.

Review Criteria
Applications for funding will be evaluated using multiple criteria including, but not limited to:
- Connection to Older Adults and Target Populations. Grant seekers must demonstrate through the application that they are connected to the aging community they serve or intend to serve. Applications are strengthened by the inclusion of, and organizational connection to, underserved target populations (e.g., BIPOC, disabled, homeless, LGBTQ+, low-income, rural, vulnerable).
- Need For and Use of Funds. Applicants must clearly describe their organization's need for funds and explain how the requested funds will be used.
- Clarity of Goals and Relevance to the Older Adult Population. Applicants must be able to articulate organizational and/or programmatic goals (i.e., what needs will be addressed) related to improving the lives of older adults.
- Thoroughness and timeliness of submission. Grant seekers must submit all grant material on time to be considered for funding. All attached documents must be readable in the submitted format. Applicants must not submit password-protected documents as these cannot be opened or considered.
