Program Summary 

The mission of the Foundation is to support early-stage biomedical investigators engaged in basic and translational research that has the potential to make fundamental advances in biomedical science. 

The program supports early-career scientists to establish research projects to a point where they can secure NIH R01 or other independent funding.

• Sponsor Application Deadline: July 1, 2026

Internal Application Requirements (all in PDF format)

• Project Summary (3 pages maximum): The summarymust include the project title and project description with objectives and aims. Since the Mallinckrodt Board includes non-scientist members, the summary must be written in clear, non-technical language so it can be understood by laypersons.
• PI Biosketch in NIH format (5 pages maximum)
• Budget Overview (1 page maximum): A basic budget outlining project costs is sufficient; detailed OCG budgets are not required.

Eligibility

Applicants should be in the first to fourth year of their tenure track faculty position and must not currently hold a substantial independent research award, such as an NIH R01 grant or its equivalent in scope and funding from other sources.

Limited Submission Guidelines

CU Boulder is limited to one submission.

• Award Amount: $75,000 per year
• Award Duration: Up to 3 years
