Positive Q4 outlook for Colorado economy thanks to new businesses, federal labs

One of the greatest strengths of the University of Colorado Boulder's research enterprise is its collaborative relationship with local businesses and laboratories, both federal and private. CU Boulder has been an integral part of an exciting and productive quarter for Colorado's economy, with continued year-over-year growth in new business filings and an overall positive outlook for both the end of the year and the first quarter of 2018, according to the Leeds Business Confidence Index (LBCI).

Additionally, a new report from the Leeds School of Business has found that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a federal laboratory that regularly works in partnership with CU Boulder through joint institute JILA, added nearly $2 billion in combined economic contributions across Colorado and Maryland in fiscal year 2016-2017.
