UAS Pilot Certification Process
In order to become a CU Boulder certified UAS pilot and fly a UAS under a university owned, FAA granted, certificate of authorization you must complete the following steps:
1. Take Inital UAS PIC Ground School: ~9 hour course
2. Complete at least one training event: ~2+ hours
3. Pass a checkride with a UAS evaluator: ~1 hours
Note: This certification requries self-study and practice outside the classroom. Plan for at least 3 hours additional studying on your time.
If you would like to become a required crew member, such as a visual observer (VO), to help a certified UAS Pilot during a mission please reach out to an instructor to complete the required training. VO certification consists of a ~1 hour course.
