This Week at the College of Music: Student Edition - Nov. 10, 2022

Congratulations to Peyton Hall Magalhaes, cello, who won first prize in the 2022-23 Bruce Ekstrand Memorial Graduate Student Performance Competition on Nov. 8! Performing works by Miklós Rózsa and Reinhold Glière, he was awarded the grand prize of $2,000. Magalhaes studies with Associate Professor of Cello David Requiro. • Huge congratulations to Professor of Musicology Rebecca Maloy who has just been named Distinguished Professor! Maloy was recognized for her distinguished research, her dedication to teaching and mentoring, and for her service to her profession and the university. Says Dean John Davis, “Join me in congratulating Rebecca Maloy for attaining this, the highest honor the university bestows.”
• On Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. (S101), our Diverse Musicians’ Alliance will host Lyz Luke of Living Jazz, a nonprofit with a mission to transform lives through music. Living Jazz programs are known for their artistic quality, and their commitment to build community based on diversity, inclusion and accessibility. Luke will lead a career-centered discussion drawing on her background in performance management, production, nonprofit fundraising, event planning and so much more. Join us!
• The career of Kedrick Armstrong—graduate orchestral conducting student—is quickly gaining momentum, including conducting the CU Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Irene Britton Smith’s “Sinfonietta” next week. Learn more and join us on Nov. 16!
