This week at the College of Music: Faculty + Staff Edition - Sept. 21, 2023

We’re consistently inspired by the College of Music’s Takács Quartet: Not only is the Grammy Award-winning ensemble internationally recognized for its musical qualifications and achievements, but also its members’ many community engagement activities—including a new partnership with El Sistema Colorado (ESC) for the 2023-’24 academic year. The partnership, which kicked off this month, comprises “mirror/mentoring” activities, side-by-side rehearsals, roundtable discussions and interactive teaching/coaching sessions.This week, ESC students and their chaperones were guests of the Takács Quartet at their regularly scheduled concert in Grusin Music Hall. Says Harumi Rhodes, the quartet’s second violinist: “We are grateful to work alongside the wonderful ESC teaching artists already in place—many of whom are College of Music alumni or current students—to create a user-friendly curriculum that emphasizes building relationships through music-making.”

• Sept. 22, 1-1:50 p.m., Provost Open Forum: This fall’s College of Music open forum is an opportunity for Provost Russ Moore to share his academic goals for the year, and for you to ask questions and engage in a discussion about the activities of the Division of Academic Affairs at CU Boulder. • Sept. 26: Chancellor Philip DiStefano’s annual State of the Campus event will cover the value and importance of a four-year degree and how CU Boulder is positioning its students for success. Following the speech, the chancellor will host a free buffet breakfast. In the Glenn Miller Ballroom (UMC)—doors open at 8:30 a.m., program begins at 9 a.m.—and via livestream. 
• Sept. 27: Tea + Equity. Join students, faculty and staff in DEI discussions over tea! Wednesdays at 4 p.m. (Grusin Lobby).
