This Week at the College of Music: Community Edition - Sept. 29, 2022

Artists from the Sphinx Organization joined us at the College of Music this week, offering an open rehearsal and master classes to our students. “The visit from the fantastic musicians of the Sphinx Organization goes to show that excellence knows no bounds,” shares Assistant Professor of Violin Alex Gonzalez. “While they represent a vast array of backgrounds and experiences, most of all they represent what it looks like to be an artist of the highest caliber.” Photo: Cellists Nicole Chung (College of Music Artist Diploma candidate) and Cuban-American cellist Thomas Mesa (Sphinx).

• Music for life: We love to see our College of Music family uplift and engage our community in diverse ways, across generations! Bob Spillman—College of Music professor emeritus, and retired chair of our piano faculty and music director of our opera program—is an active composer and songwriter, offering regular recitals, spontaneous afternoon concerts and piano nights with Broadway show tunes to Carillon residents. Among many accolades, Spillman received the CU Boulder Alumni Association’s Robert L. Stearns Award in 2004 in recognition of his service and career.
