Originally from Puerto Rico, Javier Abreu enjoyed a career as an opera singer spanning more than 20 years, including—among others—performances with New York City Opera, Atlanta Opera, Central City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Austin Opera, Stuttgart Staatsoper, Theater Basel and the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona. He was also a featured soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the National Symphony, the Britt Festival and the Lexington Philharmonic.
Prior to the University of Colorado Boulder, Javier served as Office + Marketing Manager for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. He earned a bachelor's in music at the University of Miami, a master's in voice performance at the University of Houston, a master's in organizational leadership at CU Boulder and an Artist Diploma in opera performance at The Juilliard School.
