James Whalen

James Whalen (he/him) has a long-standing passion for the arts, shaped by his active involvement in theatre during high school and as a young adult. As president of his high school drama club, he directed and acted in numerous productions, fostering a love for storytelling and collaboration through the performing arts. These experiences continue to inspire his engagement with creative pursuits including dance; he has taken tap and ballet classes and occasionally performed.

Whalen brings to the College of Music decades of experience in software development, data management and process improvement. He has contributed to designing custom software solutions, managing complex systems and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and user engagement. His background includes working on cloud infrastructure, leading projects and integrating modern tools to meet organizational goals.

Whalen is excited to apply his technical expertise and passion for the performing arts to CU Presents. By combining these skills with his appreciation for creativity and culture, he looks forward to supporting our mission and enriching the cultural life of the university and broader community.

Outside of the arts, Whalen enjoys climbing and biking, embracing Boulder’s natural beauty and opportunities for adventure.
