In memoriam
Dean Boal (1931-2023)
Native Coloradan and alumnus Dean Boal (Mus, MusEdu ’53, PhD ’59)—who served on the College of Music’s advisory board and Artist Series board, and who chaired our American Music Research Center—passed away on Nov. 14, 2023. In 2000, Boal received the College of Music’s Distinguished Alumnus Award; in 2011, he received the George Norlin Award—the highest honor bestowed by the University of Colorado Boulder Alumni Association—in recognition of his sustained commitment to excellence in his career and his devotion to the betterment of society.
The late Boulder Rotarian further served our community as president of the Boulder Philharmonic board. Additionally, the gifted musician, educator, arts administrator and public radio leader championed the growth of Interlochen Public Radio and served as the fourth president of the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
