Pia Bose (DMA ’12)
Alumna Pia Bose (DMA ’12), a member of the Bose-Pastor Duo, created “3/4,” an interdisciplinary project that reimagines Maurice Ravel’s “La Valse” through the lens of Edgar Allan Poe. Developed with choreographer Julio Arozarena and video artist Baptiste Leydecker, the work combines piano four-hands, dance and visual media to explore the duality of elegance and catastrophe. Drawing on Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death” and Ravel’s admiration for Poe’s compositional philosophy, “3/4” interprets “La Valse” as a feverish portrait of beauty unraveling—a meditation on fragility, illusion and collapse that feels disturbingly relevant today.
