The College of Music today launched Music Buff Connect, a robust alumni engagement platform for all CU Music Buffs—alumni, current students and participants in any College of Music ensembles or programs.
“We aim to provide our alumni with meaningful career support, just as business schools do,” says Alumni Coordinator Meagan Mahlberg. “With the exception of The Juilliard School and a handful other renowned music institutions, music schools and colleges generally provide only scant, if any, opportunities for professional development and networking post-graduation.
“Our goal is to bridge that gap by engaging and spotlighting College of Music alumni who are trailblazers in the music industry, as well as facilitating connections among alumni across disciplines in musical and non-musical industries, by specific fields of study, by areas of interest and by geographic location.”
Continues Mahlberg. “Music Buff Connect is the online home for our alumni to network with fellow Music Buffs, to ask questions and explore synergies with other Buffs, and to discover and share tools and resources that develop their skills and advance their professional pursuits.”

Indeed, College of Music alumnus and composer Sam Estes is thrilled about the potential of Music Buff Connect to solve his unique hiring needs. The Los Angeles-based music industry veteran co-owns Sonicsmiths, which offers a new sound design creation tool for composers and sound designers.
“We need to hire a lot of people and I’m really impressed with the quality of people coming out of the College of Music who are prepared to enter this new field,” he says, having already hired a few Music Buffs and eager to bring on more. “The way I see it, Music Buff Connect can help me attract the employees and collaborators I need.”
