elizabeth swansonThe College of Music’s legendary choral studies program welcomes a new faculty member this fall. New Associate Director Elizabeth Swanson decided to come to Boulder from New York City for a number of reasons.

“I was drawn to CU Boulder because of the legacy and excellent national reputation of the choral music department, the inspiring vision for the College of Music, the stunning location of the campus, and last but not least, the people who make the College of Music and CU Boulder a great community.”

Swanson, who earned degrees at Northwestern University, Ithaca College and St. Olaf College and serves on the executive board of the National Collegiate Choral Organization, most recently led the College Chorale at Nyack College.

While in New York, she honed her affinity for layering teaching, rehearsing and music performance with young adults.

“I am passionate about both the learning process and the performance process,” Swanson says. "A musical performance resulting from proper and intentional preparation allows for musicians be free and at their best at one moment in time, and that’s a magical experience!”

In addition to collaborating with student and faculty colleagues, Swanson says she’s excited for a change in scenery when she arrives in Boulder.

“Having lived in New York City for the past seven years, I look forward to spending time outdoors and taking in the beautiful views, sunshine, fresh air and sounds of nature.”

Swanson is also an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and Chorus America.
