The OISC Flight Operations Department exists to:

·         Provide up to date training regarding safe and legal UAS operations

·         Helping campus units (e.g., PICs) understand safety and compliance requirements

·         Collaborating with campus units to both understand their objectives and provide guidance regarding how to accomplish the goal safely and legally

·         Helping campus leadership understand where we have risk and provide guidance to units on mitigating risk.

·         Report to the “Unmanned Aircraft System Advisory Committee” recommendations for policy and procedure changes or individual exceptions.

We seek to provide an unbiased view on UAS safety and compliance to various rules and regulations. In addition to training to certify UAS pilots for a wide variety of craft, we evaluate UAS for airworthiness certification, help other university departments plan or fly different missions, interfaces with other regulatory agencies such as the FAA, and much more other related work.

If you would like to become a certified university UAS Pilot or crewmember visit UAS Pilot Certification Process tab.
