ISGW early registration program for people requiring a visa to attend
This program is for individuals who:
- are interested in attending the 2027 International Statistical Genetics (ISG) workshop (March 1-5, 2027).
- will enter the United States on passports from countries that do not have a visa waiver with the United States
- do have access to funds that will pay for attendance to the workshop.
The goal of early registration is to allow students from non-visa waiver countries to have additional time to try to secure a relevant (e.g., B-1/B-2) visa. To encourage representation from these countries, we will also reduce the normal registration fee to $200 for awardees. We will reserve 10 spots for this program. If we receive more qualifying applications than this, we will select awardees based on fit, merit, diversity of the applicant pool, and likelihood of obtaining a visa in time.
There is no strict deadline on early registration applications, but they will not be accepted after the 2027 workshop is officially announced in October or November. Early registration applicants should expect decisions within three weeks of their application, so applying sooner is beneficial. Please direct any questions you might have about the early registration program to ibgworkshop@colorado.edu.
Students who are accepted into the program should begin the visa process shortly thereafter to increase the probability that they will obtain a visa interview in time. In order to allow students on the waitlist to be able to attend and to not have empty seats at the workshop, students in this program who do not obtain a visa by January 1, 2027 will have their registration withdrawn and their registration fee will be reimbursed.
International students who meet qualifications (1) and (2) above, but who do not have access to sufficient funds to attend the workshop may instead apply for the ISCEP scholarship*, which will fully fund 2-3 junior researchers (e.g., graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, early career faculty) to attend the 2027 ISG workshop and to work at IBG for two weeks. Visit this site to apply for the ISCEP scholarship.
Please do not apply to both early registration and ISCEP (those with access to funds to attend the ISG workshop are ineligible for the ISCEP scholarship and vice-versa).
*NOTE: Funding for the 2025 ISCEP scholarship was generously provided by Regeneron Genetics Center. Funding, the Broad Institute, and IBG.
