Fall 2022 application is open for all four CU campuses
Education is an opportunity for personal and professional growth for everyone, which is why the University of Colorado offers the Tuition Assistance Benefit (TAB). For eligible faculty and staff, this generous CU benefit reduces the overall cost of higher education.

Submit nominations by Thursday, Sept. 15
Each year, the University of Colorado Board of Regents, along with faculty members from each campus, award individuals with these awards. The deadline to nominate someone for honorary degrees, university medals and distinguished service awards is Sept. 15.

Submit nominations by Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano invites nominations for the 2022 Chancellor’s Employee of the Year Award. This annual award is presented to CU Boulder staff in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional job performance and distinguished contributions to the campus community. Award criteria include job performance, leadership, service, and interpersonal skills.

The award includes a prize of $2,000 and a commemorative gift. The 2022 awards will be presented at a ceremony hosted by the Chancellor. See the announcement to learn more about eligibility and the submission process.

We will be discussing this year’s Buffs One Read book, starting on Oct. 6 and culminating with the Global Climate Summit on Dec. 1-4, where the author will be a featured speaker. Parking Services to extend option of 1-Day parking permits using a different process
The fall semester has begun and available lots will be limited. Single day parking permit option will continue to be available to faculty and staff for occasional parking on campus.

As Parking Services observes lot usage patterns, additional lot options will be provided in the coming weeks. Permits will be available up to a month in advance.

Often times a rise in phishing scams comes at the start of the semester. Information security experts consider phishing scams to be the leading online threat to people at work and home. Make sure you’re aware of what phishing scams might be targeting you as well as the steps to take if you think you have been impacted. Here are phishing scam FAQs and tips on how to report suspicious messages.

If one of your students needs a private space to have a virtual, confidential meeting with a CAPS counselor, or someone from the OIEC, OVA or Ombuds offices, they may use ECCE 1B12 (known as the “Blue Room”) for their appointment. Before the appointment, the student should visit the Engineering Dean’s Office Reception Desk (in ECAD 100 at the east end of the Engineering Center Lobby) to ask for the key to the “Blue Room” (and then drop it off immediately after their appointment).

While this room is primarily used by students, it can also be reserved by faculty and staff for the same purpose.  Our college values health & wellness and has made this space a priority for our community.  Please also see college Health & Wellness Resources and the CEAS Community Wellness Values Statement.

I want to recognize Andraa Von Boeselager and the amazing effort she has been putting in preparing for, and kicking off, the fall 2022 semester. There has been some extra craziness over the summer and she has played an integral part in keeping things running smoothly. The New York Times label 2012 “The Year of the MOOC,” Thomas Friedman of the New York Times announced “Welcome the college education revolution.”  It was not until 2019, however, that the real revolution in digital learning came to every classroom, not as a great disruption, but as a collateral effect of quarantine.

William Kuskin will explore the development of the MS-EE as following out the promises of the initial, failed, revolution, and lead a discussion of how we might imagine a greater use of digital education overall.

Kitchen Table is a monthly gathering that offers leadership and community building opportunities to students identifying as women of color working their way through a predominantly white university. By attending Kitchen Table programming during the academic year, participants will experience the benefits of gathering as women of color and connect with other like-minded folks, both peers, sister organizations doing parallel work or mentor organizations that are doing similar work outside of CU Boulder or outside of the Center for Inclusion and Social Change.

Many of you knew Tulip the Therapy Golden who we lost earlier this year. Meet her partner in crime, Lilly. Lilly is 8. She loves to eat and go on walks! She does not like to be home alone since the pandemic. She cries like you’ve been gone for days when you leave her alone for a little while. Lilly has diabetes insipidus from head trauma when she was a puppy. She gets two shots of a synthetic hormone every day to keep her healthy. Her growth was stunted due to her diabetes. She has a puppy head and a small body. We call her our Perma-Puppy. 

Lily is loved and adored by Sharon Anderson, Director of Active Learning for CEAS.

Interested in learning to meditate? Looking to unwind at the end of a busy day? Already have practice and hoping to find others who share your passion for zazen? For CU students, staff, and faculty, come learn about the way of Zen. Get to know your true self. We will sit for 20 minutes, then have a brief discussion about Zen practice and how we can improve our sense of wellbeing and balance by meditating. As state employees, UCB employees are eligible to access the state employee assistance program, Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (CSEAP), for up to 6 confidential and no cost sessions a year (1:1, family, or relationship counseling). CSEAP also offers workshops and training at no cost!

Mental Wellness Matters: This hotline helps all CU employees find support, resources for mental health issues. The University of Colorado is offering all employees a new option for quick access to mental health services – The Real Help Hotline at (833) 533-CHAT (2428).
