Volunteering & Jobs

Volunteering

The students and staff of the Paleontology Section at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History rely on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them!

As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about fossils, fossil preparation, specimen digitization, collections management, and much more.
  • Gain insight into how museums operate and their importance in research and education.
  • Potentially assist with special events, outreach, and educational programs hosted by the Museum.
  • Connect with a community of fellow fossil enthusiasts, including other volunteers, students, and staff.
  • Build valuable experiences for your resume and explore potential career paths. Plus, volunteers are often the first people we consider when job openings become available in the Paleontology Section.

Currently, volunteering is open to all University of Colorado students, staff, and faculty. We also welcome students at other universities and members of the public; however, these are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please Note: we are not able to accept volunteers under the age of 18 at this time (though we hope to change this in the future).

Interested? Email one of our Collection Managers with your name and give a brief explanation of why you’d like to volunteer for the Paleontology Section.

Jobs

The Paleontology Section occasionally offers short-term positions for current University of Colorado undergraduate or graduate students. These roles are typically grant-funded and are intended to last only a few months to a year. To view current openings, please visit the student job board Handshake.
