AI & Assessment Campus Working Group

The rapid proliferation of generative AI tools has created new questions and challenges around the assessment of student learning. The impacts of this have been felt at an international scale–and right here at CU Boulder.

As part of the updated charge of the AI Strategic Steering Committee, the AI & Assessment Campus Working Group was created to advance campus efforts around AI and assessment while responding to student calls for greater guidance and support. At the request of Provost Ann Stevens, the Center for Teaching & Learning is partnering with the Office of Information Technology, Writing Center, Office of Undergraduate Education, Program for Writing & Rhetoric, and Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution to facilitate the group throughout the 2026–27 academic year.

The AI & Assessment Campus Working Group brings together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff representing diverse departments and units from across the CU Boulder campus. By focusing on AI & Assessment for an entire year, our efforts complement those of the CU Boulder AI Strategic Steering Committee and other important efforts to address the urgent need for more support around gen AI at CU Boulder.

The AI & Assessment Campus Working Group’s charge is threefold:

Review existing faculty-facing guidance and resources around AI and assessment to identify gaps.

Develop faculty-facing guidance and resources to fill those gaps, with all such resources centering on student experiences.

Connect with other units as needed to address gaps that fall outside of the scope of AI and student learning assessment.

Through sustained dialogue and working closely together over the coming year, we aim to fulfill our charge with far-reaching impacts for teaching, learning, and assessment campuswide.
