Live in bustling, beautiful Buenos Aires, the third largest city in all of Latin America and considered the "Paris of South America"! You can take classes in English while immersing yourself in Argentine culture on programs like ISA Argentina: Buenos Aires Latin American Studies, or hone your Spanish skills by enrolling in courses with locals on programs like CIEE Argentina: Buenos Aires Liberal Arts. You can also go during the summer with CU faculty and students on Global Seminar: Culture, History & Literature (Rosario & Buenos Aires, Argentina)! Spend your free time exploring the natural splendor of Argentina’s gorgeous mountains, deserts, and countryside. For many programs, no language prerequisites are required!
Take advantage of the unique opportunity to dive into topics of biodiversity, sustainability, and leadership on faculty-led programs to the heart of Brazil Atlantic rainforest. Spend three weeks in May in immersive conservation biology practice on Global Seminar: Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil's Atlantic Forest (Brazil). On a Global Seminar, you travel abroad with a small group of CU Boulder students (approx. 10-25) and a CU Boulder faculty member, learning from the faculty in their area of expertise.
Ever wanted to visit Chile and learn more about the culture and language? ISA Chile: Valparaiso Spanish Language & Latin American Studies focuses on learning about Chilean culture through a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Expand your Spanish skills at one of the oldest and most prestigious international campuses in South America. Explore La Isla Negra in the sea and the Volcano Pucón alongside ISA resident staff and classmates. Experience a homestay with Chilean students, other study abroad students, and a local host! No language prerequisites are required, courses are taught in English and Spanish.
On ISA Colombia: Barranquilla Latin American Studies, International Business, Engineering & Courses with Locals you'll experience the vibrant, cosmopolitan Caribbean port city of Barranquilla! Choose from a variety of courses to take alongside international and local students, instructed in English and/or Spanish. Learn to dance salsa, cumbia, and merengue in Shakira’s birthplace! Immerse yourself in Colombian culture by living in a homestay or residence hall. Travel to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, National Parks, and volcanoes on ISA's excursions!
Visit Costa Rica this summer on ISA Costa Rica: San Jose Spanish Language & Latin American Culture (summer) where you can volunteer with Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (ELAP) and make community connections in San Jose! Earn up to 10 credits while learning Spanish and being immersed in Costa Rican culture at Universidad Veritas. Learn about the Cloud Forests, volcanoes, and coastlines! You can also spend your summer with CU faculty and students exploring topics of eco-tourism and Costa Rica's delicious coffee on Global Seminar: Ecotourism, Coffee, and Belonging in Costa Rica!
Spend your summer in Mexico, studying abroad on a faculty-led program! Education Abroad offers two Global Seminars in Mexico: Community Engaged Language Revitalization in Teotitlan del Valle and Exploring Ancient Mexican Peoples & Ruins in Oaxaca. These programs explore cultures both ancient and modern in the Oaxaca region. On a Global Seminar, you travel abroad with a small group of CU Boulder students (approx. 10-25) and a CU Boulder faculty member, learning from the faculty in their area of expertise.
Spend a semester amid soaring peaks, narrow fjords, and fields of ice on field-study programs like SFS Chile: Puerto Natales Wild Patagonia: Fire & Ice! Study conservation and impacts of climate change, and cross the Strait of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost part of South America, where you will see penguin colonies and explore glacial fjords. On SIT Argentina: Ushuaia People, Environment & Climate Change in Patagonia & Antarctica, take a rare trip to the Antarctic peninsula. While in the region, visit northern Patagonia’s lakes region to see the Valdivian forests, volcanoes, and blue whales. Apply early for these programs!
Peru is the perfect destination for the adventurous at heart, offering everything from the iconic Macchu Pichu, the colorful Rainbow Mountain, the vibrant, biodiverse Eastern reach of the Amazon, and the beautiful, historic city of Cusco. Explore Cusco's rich past present culture on ISA Peru: Cusco Language, Literature & Culture or learn about indigenous communities in the city SIT Peru: Cuzco Indigenous Peoples & Globalization. Or study the biodiverse Amazon through hands-on field work at scientific stations, a five-day excursion down the Amazon river, and visits to indigenous communities in the region with SFS Peru: Tarapoto the Living Amazon.
Travel to the Turks & Caicos on SFS Turks & Caicos: South Caicos Fundamentals of Marine Conservation (summer) and explore the conservation of tropical marine ecosystems. Learn about climate change, ocean acidification, and the importance of environmental management. Snorkel, scuba dive, and get the chance to see dolphins, conchs, turtles, sharks and more! Live within 3 miles of a coral reef, mangrove islands, carbonate platform flats, and deep-water diving! Tackle Sustainable Development strategies for the Islands and on a global scale.
