This Week at the College of Music: Student Edition - Oct. 27, 2022

Congratulations to our Assistant Professor of Violin Alex Gonzalez and the Sphinx Virtuosi, who made their international debut at Sala São Paulo in Brazil on Monday, Oct. 24, after performing at Carnegie Hall earlier this month. Gonzalez serves as the concertmaster of the chamber orchestra and represents what it means to be a universal musician—a multi-skilled, multifaceted professional prepared to innovate, influence and impact a diversity of disciplines, within and beyond music. “It’s always a joy to perform with my fantastic colleagues from Sphinx. What I’m most proud of this season is premiering four new works by living Black and Latinx composers across the country and abroad,” shares Gonzalez.

• “Atlas” event showcases diverse approach to creativity: “We wanted the performance to encompass different forms of art, in addition to music. ‘Atlas’ will feature music, instrumentals and dancing, as well as food from a wide array of cultures.” Join us on Oct. 28, Music Buffs!

• Staff Council Blood Drive, Nov. 1-3: As we head into the season of giving and gratitude, consider donating blood to help reduce critical blood shortages.
• A new Basic Needs Center has been established within the Division of Student Affairs to address food insecurity, housing and more.
• Mobile Food Pantries: CU Boulder’s Volunteer Resource Center and Basic Needs Center partners with Community Food Share each semester to host several Mobile Food Pantries to support the needs of our community. All are welcome, including students, staff, faculty and community members.
