This Week at the College of Music: Student Edition - March 17, 2022

As part of the 74th CU Boulder Conference on World Affairs, be sure to check out the documentary Dave Grusin: Not Enough Time, featuring the College of Music distinguished alumnus by the same name and his global legacy as a composer, arranger and pianist. Another amazing alumna, Barbara Bentree, directed and wrote the film. Special screenings are April 5+6 at 7 p.m. in Boulder’s Boedecker Theatre.

Note: Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Music Buffs! Spring break is March 21-25 and campus will be closed on Friday, March 25. This newsletter will resume on March 31.​

• March 22: One year later, traumatic event resources and support are available, and memorial events include: 
  • Wherever you are on March 22 at 2:30 p.m., the City of Boulder will hold a moment of silence commemorating the 10 community members who lost their lives in last year’s tragic event at the Table Mesa King Soopers.
  • Also on March 22, the sus4 quartet—one of the College of Music’s three honors chamber music ensembles—will perform as part of the Communitywide Day of Remembrance gathering at the Glen Huntington Bandshell, 4:30-6 p.m.
  • On March 31, there will be a tree dedication to memorialize Teri Leiker and all victims of the King Soopers shooting.

• On March 31, join us for Roots and Branches, the College of Music’s annual Diversity in Performance event
• Also on March 31, the College of Music’s Diversity and Outreach Coordinator Alexis McClain will share her CU experience as part of CUnique Stories which aims to provide storytellers and listeners opportunities for dialog, conversation and exchange to enrich their mutual understanding of CU’s history … and strengthen pride and connections within our community. 

• Crisis in Ukraine: As the war in Ukraine continues, our university community has voiced increasing concern regarding the Russian attack. Find more information on the university’s actions and resources. 
• Further acknowledging events in Ukraine, Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) are available for all CU Boulder students.
• CU Boulder’s in-person commencement ceremony this spring will feature alumnus and veteran journalist Tom Costello of NBC News will be this year’s speaker. More details to come about the College of Music’s in-person commencement festivities!
