ASL Minor

Please speak with your advisor about adding the new ASL minor beginning Fall 2026. Requirements for completing the minor are listed below.

The American Sign Language (ASL) Minor Requirements (19 credits):

Prerequisite (not counted toward the minor):

  • American Sign Language I (4 credits)
  • American Sign Language II (4 credits)

Required Courses (10 credits):

  • American Sign Language III (4 credits)
  • American Sign Language IV (3 credits)
  • Introduction to Deaf Studies (3 credits)

Elective Course (9 credits minimum):

Students must complete at least three elective courses from the list below:

  • ASL V - Advanced ASL (3 credits)
  • ASL Literature and Deaf Arts (3 credits) (Spring & Summer only)
  • Exploring Deaf Culture Through Media & Film (3 credits)

Currently Under Development:

  • Deaf History (3 credits)
    • ASL Linguistics and Structure (3 credits)

Total Credits for the Minor: 

19 credits (10 required, 9 elective)

General note: All ASL courses now use the prefix “ASLC”
