CU Boulder Resource Glossary
Financial & Administrative Resources
- Bursar: The Bursar's Office handles all billing and tax information. They will collect your tuition and other fees that you owe the university. You can also work with the Bursar’s office to estimate your bill or sign up for a payment plan.
- Financial Aid: The Office of Financial Aid helps students understand the funding you may receive to help you pay for college. That funding might include scholarships, grants or loans. You can apply for aid or browse student employment through their office.
- Registrar: The Office of the Registrar creates the academic calendar and the university’s class schedule. It also processes your registration in classes.
Academic Resources
- Advising: You will receive an Academic Advisor to help you navigate the requirements to graduate and earn your degree. Advisors are usually assigned according to your major and college. You can talk to your advisor about what classes you should take, graduating in four years, planning for study abroad, adding a second major or a minor, changing your major and more. Please don’t be shy about contacting your advisor – they are eager to help!
- Colleges, Schools & Programs: While all students at CU Boulder are a part of the university as a whole, you also belong to a specific college, school or program within CU Boulder. CU Boulder has seven colleges, schools and programs that offer different majors and minors to CU Students.
- Intra-University Transfer (IUT): If you would like to declare a major in a different college, school or program, you will need to complete an Intra-University Transfer. Each college has different criteria to complete an IUT. You can ask your advisor what is required to transfer to the college, school or program of your choice.
- Student Academic Success Center (SASC): The Student Academic Success Center is often called SASC (pronounced like “sassy”). SASC coordinates workshops to help students do better in classes, helps students connect with tutors and houses several community groups dedicated to helping students do well in school.
- Academic Success and Achievement Program (ASAP): ASAP is a free tutoring service for students living on campus or to first-year students who commute to campus from home. Sign up early – this free tutoring option does fill up!
Student Support Resources
- Center for Cultural Connections & Community (The Center): The Center creates welcoming spaces where all students can build community, explore identity and engage across cultures. The Center supports connection, learning and belonging through programs, resources and opportunities.
- CU LEAD Alliance: The CU Lead Alliance is a group of communities whose students, faculty and staff are united to promote inclusive excellence. Check out their website to see if you are eligible for any of their programs!
- New Student & Family Programs (NSFP): NSFP helps new students figure out the life of a college student and helps families to support their students. You can reach out with any questions about life on campus and we will either have an answer or get you to the right people. Your families can sign up for our newsletter or Like our Facebook page to stay up-to-date with campus life.
- Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS): CAPS offers free workshops for academic support, stress management and more, as well as free group and individual counseling.
- Wardenburg Health Services: Wardenburg Health Services is the medical health care center. You can go there if you have a cold, if you sprain your ankle or for any other non-emergency health issue you might have while at school. Be sure to learn about CU’s Health Insurance requirement, including optional Campus Care if you think you might use Wardenburg.
- Buff OneCard: Your Buff OneCard is your campus ID. It is often required at campus events to show that you are a CU Boulder student. You will also use it to access things like meal plans, printing and labs. You should submit a photo for your Buff OneCard.
- Campus Map: CU Boulder has an excellent online campus map! You can also type most campus buildings into Google Maps to get turn-by-turn directions around campus.
- Career Development Support: Career Services works to address first-generation students' career development needs. Career development advisors can assist with specialized resumes, cover letters, preparing for interviews, and job and internship search strategies.
