Michael E. Orellana Soto holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with a focus on Biological Anthropology from the Universidad de Concepción and a master’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidad de Chile.
His research focuses on understanding the biological variability of Native American and admixed Latin American populations by integrating frameworks from anthropology, population genetics and evolutionary biology.
He is currently a PhD student in Anthropology with a focus on Biological Anthropology. His current research involves studying the domestication of South American camelids from a genomic perspective and investigating signals of human archaic ancestry in Native American populations and its effects on genetic variability and phenotypic traits.
His advisor is Dr. Fernando Villanea.
