This course provides a historical overview of Latin American-US migration systems and traces the historical genealogies of undocumented migration. We will also consider ethnographic studies from African-European context and the US detention center system. We will explore how migrant life is restricted by criminalization and the carceral system, and how it is lived across is restricted by criminalization and the carceral system, and how it is lived across
axes of differences: life stages, gender, class, and racialization.
