Next Steps for Students
Reflecting
We encourage students to consider these next steps in conversation with their mentors as they continue their personal and professional development during and after their UROP experience.
Expand the Impact of Your Work
You put significant effort into your project. Now, consider how you can leverage your experience to develop your professional identity and cultivate an empowering network. If you have questions, be sure to connect with your mentor and ask about ways to share your work. We recommend asking about opportunities to present at the department/unit level, invite you to share your story with CU Boulder Today, UROP's LinkedIn Group, and the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). Our campus also hosts TEDxCU and the Conference on World Affairs (CWA) that might provide platforms for your work.
Advance Your Academic and Professional Goals
From help refining your resume to finding an internship, CU Boulder's Career Services offers a wide range of resources to help you find your professional path and get where you want to go. We recommend connecting with Career Services early and often! Students should also keep in mind that their services are available to alumni. Additionally, we recommend checking in with the Office of Top Scholarships to explore your fit for prestigious national and international scholarships, such as the Goldwater, Udall, Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright and many more!
Capitalize on Campus Resources
The New Venture Challenge (NVC) connects the CU Boulder campus with the Boulder community to develop and fund innovative ideas. Participants attend year-round events, network and collaborate with mentors to refine their ideas and form startup teams to pitch for funding ($325,000!) at the NVC Finals.
Stay Curious and Keep Connecting
The National Name Exchange is a program managed by the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) and supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), to support domestic students interested in going to graduate school. Students that enroll in the program will receive information about applying to and succeeding in graduate school as well as have their contact information shared with other universities in the NNE network who may have programs that are a good fit for their needs and goals. The open enrollment period for students runs from mid-March through mid-June annually.
