Last May, Provost Russell Moore and Boulder Faculty Assembly Chair Tiffany Beechy convened a representative 15-person faculty group, the Faculty Salary Procedures Working Group, to examine campus policies governing faculty annual merit evaluations, salary allocations, retention offer practices and other faculty-specific merit evaluation and salary allocation processes.

The working group met intensively during the fall 2022 semester, beginning with a study of existing unit-level faculty merit evaluation and salary procedures. Those discussions led the group to ask questions about gaps, redundancies and inconsistencies in those procedures.

The working group recently completed a draft report (PDF) that offers a set of guiding principles and related recommendations for faculty salary procedure optimizations. The members of the working group are asking their CU Boulder faculty colleagues to review the draft report and offer their feedback using the form at the bottom of the group's webpage. Suggestions must be received by noon on Monday, March 20, for consideration. The working group then plans to present a final report to Moore and Beechy in early April.

In March, the working group’s co-chairs Daria Kotys-Schwartz and Steve Vanderheiden are hosting two open forums—on Wednesday, March 8, and Thursday, March 16—for faculty members to review the proposed salary procedures and weigh in on the draft report. Also in March, the working group will present its findings and ask for comments at scheduled faculty governance meetings.
