COVID-19 research story nets 2021 PRSA Silver Award

Lisa Marshall, associate director of science storytelling in Strategic Relations and Communications, won a silver Media Relations award from PRSA Colorado in 2021 for her story "New COVID-19 test returns results in 45 minutes, without nasal swab."

Using easily accessible language and storytelling techniques, Marshall shared a key update in the fight against COVID-19. The piece, published in CU Boulder Today, described the development of a rapid, portable, saliva-based COVID-19 test able to return results in 45 minutes. Marshall based the story on a preprint manuscript, which became a common practice for science writers during the rapidly evolving pandemic as a way to keep communities and scientists informed of real-time scientific developments.

PRSA is the nation’s leading professional organization serving the communications community. With more than 30,000 professional and student members, PRSA is collectively represented across the U.S. by 110 chapters and 14 Professional Interest Sections, and on nearly 375 college and university campuses through its student organization.
