A research guide and open Canvas course are now available to instructional faculty and staff interested in integrating the reading of American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures, the book selected for the inaugural Buff One Read program, into their curriculum when teaching first-year students this fall. Both resources provide discussion and activity prompts to support student engagement.

America Ferrera to speak at CU Sept. 1 as part of Buffs One Read

The award-winning actor, producer, director, activist and editor of the One Read selection American Like Me will speak at the CU Events Center on Sept. 1. Get details about this free event, open only to the campus community.

Faculty may invite students to join the course or may copy content to their own Canvas course. All incoming first-year students and transfer students were offered an e-copy of the book, and the University Libraries will have extra print and e-copies for checkout. Buffs One Read will provide the incoming first-year class with a common reading experience and opportunities for further engagement and intellectual growth through programs and services.

American Like Me is edited by America Ferrera, an actress and political activist. In this anthology of essays, Ferrera and 31 of her friends share personal stories of their experiences growing up between cultures in the United States.

Buffs One Read is a joint initiative led by University Libraries; New Student and Family Programs; Boulder Faculty Assembly; the Office of Undergraduate Education; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement; the Division of Student Affairs; the College of Media, Communication and Information; and the School of Education.

Copies of American Like Me are available from the University Libraries. The campus community is invited to read the book and engage in upcoming discussions and activities.
