The Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors recently approved a shift that will allow CU Boulder to assume operation of the Stampede bus route beginning Monday, Aug. 12.
The Stampede provides a Monday-through-Friday connection between Main Campus and the Discovery Drive area of East Campus. RTD’s last day servicing the route will be Friday, Aug. 9. On Monday, Aug. 12, the route becomes part of CU Boulder’s network of free inter- and intra-campus Buff Bus service.
The Stampede route runs from 18th Street and Euclid Avenue on Main Campus north on 18th, then east on Colorado Avenue to the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (SEEC) on East Campus, looping through Discovery Drive and then back toward Main Campus via westbound Colorado.
CU’s Transportation Services division will operate Buff Buses along the same route currently serviced by RTD. CU Boulder plans to extend the hours of service for the Stampede during the school year and may slightly reduce service hours during the summer (ending, for example, at 7 p.m., versus 8 p.m.). More details on service hours will be finalized and announced as Aug. 12 nears.
CU Boulder proposed incorporating the Stampede route into its network of free inter- and intra-campus Buff Bus service, working with RTD to optimize transit both locally and regionally for our campus community. The change comes as a new Aerospace Engineering building opens on Discovery Drive in the fall, along with overall increasing utilization of East Campus. The change also means that part-time and temporary employees of the university who do not have access to CU Boulder’s EcoPass partnership with RTD will now be able to access the intra-campus route for free.
RTD provides online information for all of its August 2019 service changes. Those with questions or comments about the change to the Stampede service can also email RTD at service.changes@rtd-denver.com or CU Boulder Transportation Services at BuffBus@colorado.edu.
