Beverly Daniel Tatum, author of the best-selling book Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? will be on campus as a featured speaker at the CU system Diversity and Inclusion Summit hosted at the University Memorial Center, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day Nov. 13 and 14.
Tatum, a sought-after speaker on the topics of racial identity development, race and education, and strategies for creating inclusive campus environments, will engage in a conversation with Chancellor Phil DiStefano from 10 to 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 13 in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. Participants also are invited to submit questions during the discussion.
"Dr. Tatum is somebody who a lot of our students, faculty and staff know about. Her book on race and identity has had such an impact, and we are fortunate to have her at the summit talking about these critical issues," said Alphonse Keasley, associate vice chancellor in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement.
There will also be more than 40 informative, challenging and interactive sessions exploring the theme "Intent vs. Impact: Improving Inclusive Interactions."
