With a different topic each session, ranging from proposal budgeting to book publishing and more, the Research & Innovation Office workshops are sure to inform. Lunch is provided at each of these events, but space is limited, so be sure to register.
Sept. 7: Navigating Resources for Research, Scholarship and Creative Work
Designed for new faculty members, representatives from the RIO Research Development Team and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) will provide an overview of the resources available to support research, scholarship, and creative work on campus. The workshop will specifically focus on resources available to help faculty and investigators identify funding opportunities, and how to work effectively with OCG to prepare and submit competitive proposals.
A second session will be offered Sept. 13.
Sept. 12: Packard Fellowships & Keck Research and Education Grants Workshop
Interested in applying for a Packard Fellowship or a Keck Research or Education Grant? All early-career faculty are invited to a conversation on the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowships and the W.M. Keck Foundation Research and Education Grants.
Previous Packard Fellows and Keck grant recipients will share about their successful experiences and will be available to answer questions. CU Boulder's Office of Advancement will also provide information about what types of projects each foundation is looking to fund, and how to put together a successful application.

Sept. 14: CU Internal Funding Opportunities Expo
Attend this RIO workshop to learn about funding sources available from CU to support your research, scholarship, and creative work. Representatives from numerous campus entities will be in attendance to provide brief descriptions of their respective funding opportunities with the second half of the workshop reserved for participants to network with and ask questions of the funders.
Sept. 18: Book Publishing with University Press of Colorado
Join RIO and the University Press of Colorado (UPC) to learn about what it takes to get your book published. Darrin Pratt of UPC will share information about what to expect from the publishing process and what university presses and publishers are looking for in a manuscript. Information will also be provided about print, digital and open access trends in the industry.
Bring your questions, as there will time at the end of presentation for Q&A.
Oct. 9: A Conversation with Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation Terri Fiez
Come meet Terri Fiez, vice chancellor for research and innovation. She joined CU Boulder in 2015 and has spearheaded many new initiatives since arriving.
Fiez will field questions from attendees, discuss efforts to improve support for campus investigators, and highlight how CU Boulder's research, scholarship and creative activities are advancing the university's strategic imperatives. Please feel free to submit a question for Terri in advance of the workshop on your workshop registration form.
Oct. 11: Commercialization and Partnering with Industry
Geared toward faculty with an interest in working with industry partners and/or commercializing an idea, this workshop will feature experts from the Offices of Industry Collaboration (OIC) and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO).
Faculty will learn how to navigate these arenas—from identifying industry partners to understanding the university's commercialization resources. The event will also highlight funding and training opportunities available to support faculty on campus in their industry collaboration and commercialization endeavors.
Oct. 24: Proposal Budgeting 101
Stressed about developing budgets for proposals? Join RIO and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) for a budgeting 101 workshop for externally funded research, scholarship and creative work projects.
Senior OCG staff will provide an overview of the budget process for faculty and administrators looking to understand budget basics, including the federal and university policies that guide budget development. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for Q&A.
Oct. 26: Finding Funding
Is your search for relevant funding opportunities time-consuming and onerous? Join RIO to learn how to get customized funding alerts delivered directly to your inbox.
In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to effectively search for funding opportunities on a variety of funding databases, including SPIN, the Foundation Directory Online, and Dimensions. You will also learn how to create online accounts and generate customized email funding alerts from SPIN and the Philanthropy News Digest. RIO staff will demonstrate the capabilities of these sites and how they can make your search for funding easier and more robust.
Important note: Please bring a laptop computer to the workshop with you to participate fully. Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A, and time for you to network with other faculty and staff.
Nov. 12: Early Career Investigator Opportunities
RIO invites early career faculty and investigators to a panel discussion on early career award opportunities designed for researchers and scholars beginning their careers.
The panel will consist of CU Boulder faculty who have been successful in securing early career awards; panel members will share insights and information their experiences in securing these awards. The panel presentation and follow-up discussion will be a great opportunity for early career faculty to ask questions and network.
Nov. 29: Research & Innovation Seed Grant Workshop
Join RIO for a discussion about the Research & Innovation Seed Grant Program. Designed to catalyze new areas of research, scholarship and creative work, the Seed Grant Program awards nearly $1 million annually to Boulder faculty across all disciplines.
At this event, RIO will convene a panel of previous seed grant recipients; attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from previous grantees about their experience securing a Research & Innovation Seed Grant.
