The Academic Futures subcommittes are submitting to campus some of the compelling ideas that have emerged from combined campus input over the fall semester. These ideas arose from white papers, town hall meetings, unit-based meetings and themed discussions.
In the first of a multipart Academic Futures video series, Shelly Miller, professor of engineering, is asking for your feedback on a set of ideas the interdisciplinary teaching and research subcommittee has coalesced around. This is your opportunity to weigh in on these ideas, submitting feedback by June 1.
- What sorts of mechanisms and administrative support would you envision to establish interdisciplinary, collaborative teaching partnerships across campus, both at the undergraduate and graduate level?
- How best might we—through our teaching, research and creative works—build a diverse and interdisciplinary workforce capable of solving complex problems?
- What would your vision be for a faculty-led committee whose focus is on promoting interdisciplinary teaching, research and creative work programs/proposals/centers?
- What sorts of funding models would you propose we consider that would reward interdisciplinarity, as compared to the model we have now that is more student-credit hour focused?
