Traffic on campus during move-in 2016The morning of Thursday, May 10, the university will honor the class of 2018 during the spring commencement ceremony, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field.

Multiple department recognition ceremonies will follow, scheduled into Saturday, May 12, and taking place at Macky Auditorium, Eaton Humanities, Old Main, Coors Events Center, University Memorial Center and other locations. As always, it is sure to be a day filled with excitement and appreciation for graduates and their families.

The campus is reminding the community that, with all the activity and influx of visitors over a busy couple of days, there will impacts on traffic along Boulder roadways, on campus and in parking areas. In an effort to help reduce these impacts, the campus is encouraging those employees who have the ability to do so to explore other transportations options or other work options (in coordination with supervisors).

“Campus leadership has authorized employees to consider alternative options in situations that allow for flexibility, offering a handful of suggested possibilities, such as arriving early or working from home,” said Carla Ho-a, associate vice chancellor of finance and business strategy.

Options could include:

  • Alternative transportation: Walk, bike (for Boulder-based faculty and staff) or ride the bus to campus. If there is no bus route near your home, your EcoPass allows you to drive to a Park-n-Ride, from which point you can ride to/from campus by bus.
    • For help in planning your bus commute, review the Regional Transportation District’s Trip Planner and Park-n-Ride informative webpages. Please note road congestion and the closure of Colorado Avenue west of Regent and 18th Street south to Euclid will create RTD bus reroutes for the Stampede, 209, 209G and J routes. CU Boulder campus passengers will be accommodated at the 18th and Euclid Stop.
  • Carpool with others: Plan now to ride-share with other employees who live near you.
  • Telecommute: Employees who are not participating in commencement activities and whose work is conducive to telecommuting should speak with their supervisor to make arrangements.
  • Use accrued leave: Employees who want to use leave should plan this option with their supervisors.
  • Arrive prior to 7 a.m.: If you arrive after this time please know that parents, students and guests will be placed in Main Campus parking lots and there may not be parking spaces available for permit holders.
  • Ride the Discovery Express courtesy shuttle: Park in lots 556, 544, 548 and 543 and ride the CU Discovery Express to Main Campus. Shuttles will run to and from Main Campus from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you are a campus permit holder and your parking lot is directly affected by these events, you will be sent an email notification from Parking Services. Also, there will be signage posted at your lot as a reminder.
