Last month, the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) announced the implementation of its new general education requirements, which will replace the A&S core curriculum, effective this August.

Current A&S students can continue to work toward completing the old requirements (commonly known as the “A&S core curriculum”) or they can choose to switch to the new A&S general education curriculum if that is more advantageous for them.

Most current A&S seniors and juniors and even many sophomores will be best served by completing the A&S core curriculum. The students most likely to benefit from a switch to the new A&S gen ed requirements are students who are freshmen this year and have not yet completed much of the core.

Students can review how classes they have taken or those that are in-progress will count toward the new gen ed requirements by choosing the “select a different program” option in the degree audit in mycuinfo.colorado.edu (click on “Track Academic Progress”)

Switch Labs

Students who want help determining whether the core or gen ed curriculum will be best for them can drop by a general education Switch Lab. Students who choose to switch will be able to make the request before they leave the lab.
