Men's Coaching Staff

Carmen Slack began rowing at the University of Washington decades ago. There she stroked a lightweight 4+ at many local regattas and regional championships, and developed a strong passion for the sport. She started rowing again several years after college and has been a rowing coach for over a decade. She began coaching for a small club in the Pacific Northwest, where she became a Certified Level 2 USRowing Coach and found that she loved coaching as much as rowing, and soon she moved to other clubs, taking on more challenging coaching positions. She has coached several successful men’s and women’s programs, at the junior and master level. During the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, she travelled to Alaska to coach a summer program, mostly in singles.Knowing she wanted to coach another level of athletes, Carmen began as the varsity men’s coach at the University of Colorado, Boulder in the fall of 2022. She finds this level and venue both challenging and rewarding. She says, “coaching rowing is about much more than teaching correct rowing technique.”Carmen enjoys spending time with family and friends, rowing, biking, skiing, fishing, hiking, and traveling. During her travels, she continues to row as a guest wherever she visits. As a master rower, she has earned gold medals at the World Master’s Regatta in Bled Slovenia W8+, the Master’s Henley W8+, and the San Diego Crew Classic W8+, to name a few. She has competed in many local regattas throughout the years and never turns down an opportunity to row for fun or to compete.
