Dating back to its inception in 1967, the University of Colorado Boulder Men’s Rugby Club has consistently competed at the highest level. This tradition continues with the team’s participation in D1A-West, the premier level of collegiate rugby in the United States. The Buffaloes have achieved significant success, reaching the national quarterfinals in 2013 and 2014, ranking seventh in D1A at the end of the 2014 season, and tenth after the 2022 season, along with frequent top 20 and 25 appearances.
Adding to the team’s proud history are a National Final appearance in 1984, two Final Four appearances in 1984 and 2008, and the PAC 7’s title in 2011. The team also won a plate in Vegas in 2015 and 2016, advanced to the plate final in the inaugural year of Red Bull University 7's, and appeared at the Collegiate Rugby Championship in 2019. This success is bolstered by an active and engaged alumni presence that frequently interacts with the team and encourages new players to uphold the CU Rugby tradition and mindset.
As part of a D1 university with many high-level sports, the team benefits from access to the school's top-tier athletic facilities. The University of Colorado Men’s Rugby Team practices on beautiful natural and artificial surfaces and works out in one of the nation's best recreation centers. Thanks to its proximity to USA Rugby and several of the nation's best men’s teams, the team is supported by one of the best coaching staffs in the nation. Moving forward, Colorado plans to build on its successful foundations and continue competing to be one of the best teams in the nation.
