This week at the College of Music: Faculty + Staff Edition - March 23, 2023

Ensemble Flatirons—the College of Music’s amazing Graduate Brass Quintet in Residence—recently visited seven schools from Aspen to Glenwood Springs as part of the Aspen Music Festival and School’s Musical Connections program! The quintet also performed a well-received recital at the Basalt Regional Library during their three-day residency and interacted with 500+ local K-12 students.

• Meet incoming Assistant Professor of Trombone Sterling Tanner
• Professor of Composition Carter Pann’s new album—“New Stories”—is a compilation of composers who studied at the University of Michigan and who’ve worked with Joseph Lulloff, professor of saxophone at the Michigan State University College of Music. Pann’s 25-minute Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano is the album’s largest work, juxtaposing Romantic and modern idioms, and Renaissance and Baroque forms. Congratulations!
• We’re thrilled to welcome Stefan Jackiw to the College of Music this week! On Friday, March 24, the superstar violinist will present a master class in E160, 12:15-2:15 p.m. On Saturday, Jackiw will deliver a pre-concert talk before performing Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy with the Boulder Philharmonic in Macky Auditorium.
• #BoulderStrong remembrance day, March 22: This event marks two years since the mass shooting in Boulder when we lost 10 community members including Teri Leiker, devoted fan of our Golden Buffalo Marching Band. Learn about the College of Music’s Teri Leiker Endowed Memorial Marching Band Scholarship Fund.
• Boulder Arts Week returns April 7-15!
• Buffs One Read—a campus initiative that builds community through the shared reading of one—has selected a new title for 2023-2024: The Book of Joy, Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, with Douglas Adams.
