Recent Wind Symphony rehearsals leveraged the incredible technology in our new Ensemble Room, part of the Imig Music Building expansion (join us for the ground-breaking tomorrow, Sept. 17, beginning at 11 a.m.!). According to Director of Bands Donald J. McKinney, Associate Professor of Music Composition and Theory Xi Wang (pictured) at Southern Methodist University joined us from Dallas, Texas, to provide live feedback to our student musicians on their performance of her piece “Winter Blossom.” Additionally, composer Carlos Simon joined us from Maryland where he's an assistant professor at Georgetown University; he offered insights to our students on their performance of his piece “Sweet Chariot.” Both works will be performed by the Wind Symphony tonight, Sept. 16, when they share the stage with the Symphonic Band at Macky Auditorium. See you there (or online)!

• Congratulations to Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofsky on winning the 2021 Gaudeamus Award (Utrecht, The Netherlands)! According to jury members, "Annika is a unique refined performer-composer, whose music embraces disparate stylistic elements to create moving and passionate art."
