Multi-Function Role Survey FAQs for Senior HR Practitioners

About the Multi-Function Role Survey

A multi-function role is one where a person has both HR and non-HR responsibilities (i.e., finance/procurement, IT, communications, administrative, or other responsibilities). For the purpose of this survey, we are only seeking information related to multi-function roles that include HR responsibilities.

This survey is intended for senior HR practitioners to help us identify multi-function roles within their units that currently include HR work in addition to other duties such as finance/procurement, IT, communications, administrative, or other responsibilities.

  • This survey is intended to gather a sample size of multi-function roles to highlight general trends and patterns across campus.
  • The data collected will help us explore practical, informed options for how to support or reconfigure these roles going forward in collaboration with other functions such as Finance and IT.
  • The goal is to ensure individuals in multi-function roles are supported and set up for success in the new model.

We are not seeking to capture every multi-function role during this phase of work. We will complete a detailed unit analysis of multi-function roles during Implementation Planning to ensure all individual roles are captured.

Multi-function roles are common across campus and reflect how units have adapted over time. This survey will help us gather information to ensure these roles are thoughtfully considered as we design the future-state structure for each unit. Your input will help us explore practical, informed options for how to support or reconfigure these roles going forward.

Data collected will support deeper analysis and planning in collaboration with other functions, such as Finance and IT, to better address multi-function roles in the new model.

No. This survey is not a performance evaluation or a staffing decision tool. Any staffing decisions will be made during Implementation Planning in collaboration with the unit.

Once the data is gathered and analyzed, we will share potential options with the Blueprint Project Leadership Team (BPLT) and the Senior HR Leaders to seek input and feedback before any final decisions are made. These options and feedback will then go to the HR Blueprint Project Executive Sponsors and the Chancellor’s Executive Committee for a decision on how to address multi-function roles going forward.

No. The survey is limited to multi-function roles that include HR responsibilities.
