OJI Transition

Good afternoon, HRLs,

I would like to share an important update regarding a facet of our CU Boulder Leave Team. Effective October 1, 2025, On-the-Job-Injury case management (OJI) will be transitioning to the System Office. For those of you who aren’t familiar, OJI leave is granted to eligible University of Colorado employees who experience a work-related injury or illness and file a Workers' Compensation claim.

This change reflects a strategic move to centralize leave programs at the System Office: OJI, FAMLI, and FMLA will now all be under one unit to improve efficiency, consistency, and the overall experience for our CU employees. The System Leave Team has been collaborating with our Central HR Leave Team, University Risk Management, and our leave management software provider on this change.

The Boulder campus will retain the Leave Manager role to maintain current reasonable employer processes, faculty sick leave audits, leave sharing program oversight, and serve as a resource and liaison for assistance with all system leave cases.  Dominick Rotante will continue to be the CU Boulder Leave Program Manager, managing the reasonable employer process, the leave sharing program, faculty sick leave audits, and serve as a campus liaison and resource to the System Leave Team.

This decision is operational in nature and not a reflection of the Boulder OJI Team. Further, this is an isolated reconfiguration in relation to the leave centralization project that began over two years ago with the state’s adoption of FAMLI.

I want to be clear that the OJI transition has nothing to do with HR Blueprint. It is a decision and implementation separate from any HRBP processes, modifications, or future plans.

This transition provides a strong model for delivering support in the most aligned and consistent manner possible and I look forward to continued collaboration and partnership with System to best serve our CU employees.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warmly,

Robyn
