Community Cycles partner with CU Boulder for the eBike Distribution Program
Ruben was exhilarated to receive his eBike--it meant getting to work that didn't involve waking up his wife and baby to give him a ride. A chef for dining services, he now has his own way to and from campus, as a huge stressor has been lifted. As a one-car family, the eBike was an affordable option and he jumped at the opportunity to apply.
For Jose and Juan, having their new eBikes meant more exercise, independence, and helping the environment by reducing their carbon footprint. This father-son duo works in dining services; Juan is a material handler and his father Juan, is a chef.
Community Cycles in partnership with the University of Colorado, Boulder Community Health,Small Planet eBikes, the City of Boulder, and Boulder County have made it a reality for individuals in Boulder County to become the proud owner of an eBike. Not only does it promote health and wellness, but it also provides a convenient, affordable way to get around. The Colorado Energy Office has made this entire eBike program possible with a generous grant. Clark Rider, Sustainable Transportation Specialist, helped spread the word across campus about the program and application details.
For individuals like Ruben, Jose, and Juan to apply, there were eligibility stipulations, in addition to several expectations they needed to adhere to in the application process. Most importantly, they were expected to use the bike as their primary mode of transportation for getting to and from their job. They also needed to provide feedback about the program and attend periodic check-ins with Community Cycles. The eBike is valued over $1500 and the organizations want to ensure it is being utilized and valued in the right way with the right people.
Shanti was thrilled to have the opportunity to apply and receive her bike. The speedy eBike at first scared her, but fond memories of riding scooters in her home country of Nepal squashed her fear. Exhilaration and pride took over, along with the happiness of being able to get to work quickly and easily now.
A huge thank you to Community Cycles and our other community partners for making these eBikes a reality for fifteen of our dedicated CU Boulder employees. Not only has it positively impacted their lives and their families, but has made the morning work commute that much sweeter. Not to mention speedier.
