The Department of Human Resources at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a Training & Development Specialist. This position reports to the Training Manager. This position exists to design and deliver training programs to University employees. Specific functions include delivery, coordination and evaluation of new and existing training programs. This position researches, designs, and implements trainings.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

Training and Development

  • Deliver, facilitate, coordinate and evaluate employee development courses, seminars, and programs. 
    • Programs range from topical seminars (emotional intelligence, communication) to style assessments (such as CliftonStrengths, Everything DiSC) to multi-day programs (such as Managers Academy and Crucial Conversations). 
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluation for all trainings. 
  • Respond to departmental training requests. 

Needs Analysis, Assessments, Instructional Design

  • Develop and administer surveys, assessments, interviews and focus groups to conduct needs assessments with the training manager. 
  • Utilize instructional design processes to develop programs based on the needs assessment. 
  • Work with Training Manager to develop new programmatic initiatives to enhance department offerings to meet campus needs. 
  • Participate in committees internally and externally that fit with the mission of human resources. 
  • Assist the Training Manager with projects as needed.

What We Require

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in curriculum and instruction, organization and employee development, human resource management, education, or a closely related field.
  • Two or more years of professional work experience with an emphasis in training. 

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing training programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, training program development, and ability to train on general employee development topics.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to engage diverse employee populations at all levels of the organization. 
  • Excellent public speaking skills, ability to facilitate interactive discussions, able to adjust to diverse audiences, and deal with a range of participant behaviors. 
  • Experience planning, managing, and delivering multi-day development programs or other related initiatives from start to finish.
  • Experience developing new training seminars or programs on topics relevant to a broad employee population, including management skills, communication, customer service, etc. 
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or other presentation software) and experience with diverse presentation software.

What We Would Like You to Have 

  • Master’s degree in one of the above or a closely related field. 
  • At least 3 years of professional training experience. 
  • Certification on one or more of the following or other assessments: DiSC, Emotional Intelligence, Real Colors, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, CliftonStrengths, Crucial Conversations, etc. 
  • Work experience in Higher Education.

The anticipated starting salary range starts at $55,000 commensurate with experience.
