CU Heritage Center – CU 150th Anniversary

The Heritage Center is offering one internship position to assist with researching people, topics, and events of CU's past for the university's upcoming 150th anniversary in 2026. While the museum is temporarily closed as Old Main gets a much-needed restoration, we plan to create and install small physical exhibits in strategic locations around campus and develop online content for the anniversary year.

Our collection includes archival material and thousands of photographs, publications, artifacts, memorabilia, scrapbooks, and textiles covering many aspects of CU history from the 1870s through the present. Depending on your research interests, you can choose from many people and topics and have the opportunity to learn about museum exhibit content development.

Number of Positions:  1

Supervisor: Mona Lambrecht, Interim Director and Curator of History and Collections

Schedule: 8-10 hours per week during the fall semester

Format: In person with some virtual research available. Potential research at other local libraries. The museum is temporarily located on East Campus at 30th and Marine streets.

Compensation/Course Credit: This position is unpaid. Students may earn 3 internship credits towards their HIST major or minor by completing several personal reflections/journal entries and submitting a final project/sample of work from their internship. To earn credit, students must enroll in HIST 4930.

Desired skills:

  • Interest in local history and/or museum exhibition development
  • Experience with various primary source materials
  • Excellent research, documenting, and writing skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to read script/cursive handwriting helpful
  • Familiarity with CU Boulder campus, Boulder, or Colorado history helpful
  • Experience with genealogical research helpful
  • Comfortable working independently and willing to ask questions when needed
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a sense of humor

CU Libraries – Latinx and Chicanx Communities

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries’ Archives is seeking one intern during Spring 2026 semester (16 weeks beginning the week of January 8, 2026). The intern will conduct a research survey of primary sources within the CU Boulder Archives that document the history and experiences of Latinx and Chicanx communities in Boulder County.  This work is part of a collaborative project with Boulder County Parks and Open Spaces. The intern will be trained to use CU Boulder’s ArchivesSpace platform and other collection management systems to locate relevant archival collections; perform detailed research within these collections; and create an annotated bibliography, which may include additional associated research on individuals, events, organizations, or other topics and/or writing short biographies or historical context documents. This work will be performed on-site in the Archives in Norlin Library on the CU Boulder campus.

Supervisor: Megan Friedel, Lead Archivist and Head of Distinctive Collections & Institutional Memory, University of Colorado Boulder Libraries

Schedule: 8-10 hours per week. Hours must be scheduled Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays between 9am-4pm, with some flexibility for Wednesdays between 10am-4pm dependent on approval by the supervisor.

Format: In person

Compensation/Course Credit: This position is unpaid. Students may earn 3 credits towards their HIST major or minor by completing several personal reflections/journal entries and submitting a final product/sample of work from their internship. To earn credit, students must enroll in HIST 4930.

  • Interest in archival collections and historical research and/or a career in archives
  • Ability to take directions well
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Comfort with being self-directed and working independently, willing to ask questions when unsure
  • Comfortable with learning to navigate and use new software platforms

CU Libraries – Distinctive Collections and Institutional Memory – Glenn Miller Collection

Distinctive Collections and Institutional Memory in the CU Libraries is offering an internship position working with the Glenn Miller collections. The Glenn Miller collections are composed of over 40 big band music collections containing documents, photographs, and audio-visual material relating to the life and career of big band leader Glenn Miller. Tasks will include creating inventories of audio-visual material in the collections, as well as organizing and rehousing archival materials to improve researcher access to the collection. As an intern you will receive a general introduction to archival collections including their arrangement, description, and preservation. Your final project will be all or portions of an archival finding aid (or context and inventory for a collection).

Schedule: 8-10 hours per week during spring semester

Museum of Boulder – Collections Intern/Inventory

The Museum of Boulder is seeking up to three interns over the next semester to assist with a variety of projects. Interns will work with the museum's permanent collection of historic artifacts to accession, photograph, conduct condition reports, create object storage, update the Museum's database - Past Perfect, choose objects for upcoming exhibits, write narrative labels, etc. By the end of the Internship, interns will have gained a basic understanding of day-to-day work in collection management.

Number of Positions: 3 per semester

Supervisor: Elizabeth Nosek, Curator of Collections & Exhibits

Schedule: 8-10 hours per week. Must be available on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays. Specifics to be determined with curator.

Format: In person
