The CTL and ASSETT are pleased to announce a campus-wide Faculty Fellows program! During fall 2022, faculty fellows will attend a seminar and engage with a cohort of colleagues around teaching topics such as course design, active learning, inclusive teaching, teaching assessments, teaching with technology and other topics of interest. At the end of this seminar, fellows will propose a project to actively address identified teaching and learning challenge(s). 

May 19, 2022 from 8:45 AM - 1:30 PM: This half-day event will once again bring together higher education teaching and learning professionals from the region to share ideas, resources and successes from the past year while learning together. The meeting will feature talks by colleagues at community colleges and four-year institutions. All sessions will occur online, via Zoom.

Weekly on Fridays from May 13th to June 17th, 10:00-11:00 AM: This summer semester, join CTL Professional Development Lead Preston Cumming alongside instructors of all levels to read and discuss Susan D. Blum's book "UNgrading: Why Rating Students Undermines Learning (and What to Do Instead)". During this time, we will have discussion of the text as well as ways we can apply this understanding in our own classrooms and university lives. Space will be limited to the first 15 participants.

Additionally, we are thrilled to announce the 2022-2023 Buffs One Read title, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Visit the University Libraries site to learn more about the title and to consider the ways you, your students, and your communities can engage with the program.

Seminar sessions are on Fridays from June 17th - July 29th, 12:00-1:00 PM: This is a 7-session workshop series designed to expose you to the basic elements of course design.  Over the course of this workshop, you will design a course based on your current area of research interest.   This workshop series is open to MFAs, PhDs, and Post-docs from any academic discipline.  We will work slowly, one aspect of the course at a time, to allow you to fully develop your ideas and not detract unnecessarily from your research goals.  At the end of the workshop you will present your course to the group and design a full course syllabus. Fill out this form to register for the course.

The Innovating Large Courses Initiative is a NEW program that provides 3-year funding and educational support to departments to improve student success in large lecture courses. Apply now for the fall cohort.

The CTL offers individualized, confidential consultations free of charge to all educators on the CU Boulder campus. CTL staff members can consult on specific aspects of your teaching or simply hold a general conversation. We are likewise happy to provide confidential classroom observations and conduct classroom interviews. When needed, our staff can quickly connect you to appropriate campus support and resources.

Engage your students. The Reacting to the Past Conference, hosted by the University of Colorado’s Center for Teaching and Learning and the Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology’s Innovation Incubator, will be held in person in Boulder from June 13-16, 2022, in the Center for Academic Success and Engagement building. Our goal is to provide a conference that will rejuvenate and encourage faculty in their pursuit of active learning through Reacting to the Past!

July 21 from 1:00-4:00 PM: Are you a new faculty member to CU Boulder and would like to know more about how to prepare to teach your courses this fall? Please join us for a “Course Design and Academic Technology Overview for New Faculty” workshop! We will introduce Canvas, cover the basics of course design, foundational pedagogy, and discuss academic technology to help new faculty prepare for the up-coming semester. Whether you are teaching face-to face, hybrid, or remote courses, we will provide an overview and share resources in this 3-hour workshop. *Advanced registration is required. 

The CTL's Fall Intensive is an annual workshop series designed to support educators at the outset of the academic year. Workshops are designed to help you teach at CU Boulder, provide opportunities for professional development in postsecondary education, and explore nonacademic jobs.
